Umm Bab Clay Quarry
Listed as a tourist attraction in Google Maps, Umm Bab Clay Quarry is in fact a fully operational industrial extraction zone. Located in western Qatar, the area is home to several unique and striking landforms. While they may appear to be natural phenomena, these tree topped clay columns are actually remnants of the clay extraction process. For reasons which remain unclear, excavators in the area have for decades dug around existing trees, leaving a stark and visible record of the scale of man made change to this desert landscape.
